No Union fees would be after tax. The person then claims this tax back on their tax return as tax deductible.

Super would not be affected.

I was wondering if I could have clarification on the union fees to be deducted from John’s pay.

Is this deduction from pre-tax or post-tax income?  As union fees are tax deductible, my initial thoughts are that union fees can be deducted from pre-tax income, hence reducing the taxable income and PAYG – is this correct?

Would this also reduce the gross income for the super guarantee calculation?

Many thanks!!

Cheers, Gemma

Thanks!

I’m completing the Final Assessment in the word document provided.

However I am having problems saving it. Every time I save, the Save As window opens where I can change the name (or not, as I want to overwrite the current file).  In either situation, when I click Save, the same Save As window keeps popping up.

I am using an old version of Word, which has worked perfectly for years, and I’m not keen to pay to replace it.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

I would suggest you take the Policies & Procedures extract from the beginning of the assessment and expand on that.

The areas you may want to update (add an additional one or two paragraphs each) are:

Allowance Claims – how would you go about substantiating that the employee is entitled to the claim, do they need to keep a log book of their travel, submit receipts, obtain prior approval from the manager etc.

Confidentiality – details on who can access payroll info, password protection required, answering queries from third parties etc.

Timeframes & deadlines – when are super/ PAYG/ other payments due, do these payments require management approval, how is the payment made (electronically, online)

Payroll process/ segregation of duties – who prepares and who approves the payroll, are timesheets required, who authorises them etc.

Records management – where/how are documents filed, how long are they kept, who can access them

If you refer to Student Activity 1 in the manual, there are some examples of organisation’s P&P documents you can access online to give you some further guidance.

The document does not have to be very long, maybe an additional 1 or 2 pages on what’s already there.

Kind regards

Jennifer

Task 1 – Create payroll policy & procedure. How in depth does this need to be? What are the expectations of the teachers with regards to this? Are you wanting a 5 page procedure? something simple? something complex?

I have finished this assignment except for task 1 – which I’ve sat on for over 4 months because I’m unsure what the expectations are. I may be over thinking it or under thinking it. Any guidance will be appreciated.

<div></div>
<div style=”color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;”>Consider things you would need to do as an employer the first time you employ a staff member (do you need to register with any government agencies, how will you pay your employee etc.) Some of these requirements you would have highlighted in Part A Qu 1 of the assessment.</div>
<div style=”color: #222222; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;”>

You need to establish policies & procedures in Part B.  Examples of how you can set out your Policies & Procedures can be found on the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers website  ‘Payroll Management Policy’

Kind regards

Jennifer
